Create your own business, team, or user/member directory with Formidable Directory! With this plugin, you can:

  • Display a staff, faculty, employee, or team listing
  • Create a search form for local or country-wide businesses
  • Search a user/member directory and click on the member to view more details

Download and install

  1. This plugin requires that you have purchased at least the Business or Elite plan. If you haven’t already done so, install and activate the premium version of Formidable Forms.
  2. In your WordPress admin, go to Formidable → Add-Ons and click the Install button for the WordPress Directory plugin.
  3. In your WordPress admin, go to Formidable → Global Settings → Directory, and you’ll see the Formidable Directory setup wizard.

  4. Click the Connect an Account button to install the Formidable Forms premium plugin. If the plugin has been installed on your site, you will be taken to step 2.

  5. Install and activate any required add-ons. Click the Install and activate button to install the User Registration add-on. If you already have all the required plugins installed, this step will be marked complete.

Set up directory

After the plugin is activated, you can now configure your Directory Settings and choose which type of directory you want to set up.

  1. Go to Formidable → Global Settings → Directory.

  2. Select the type of directory you would like to create.
    • Choose type: Team, User/Member, or Business
    • Choose layout: Two Column, Four Column, Table List
    • Add page title: Listing Form Page Name, Directory Page Name
  3. Click the View Page button to view the autogenerated page. By default, all directory-generated pages are saved as drafts and not published right away.

  4. To edit the page content, go to the top menu, and hover to the Formidable link. Click the submenu to be taken to the Directory View.

  5. Make any required changes to the View and click the Update button.
  6. Publish the new directory pages.

Create a team directory

If you would like to create a directory that displays staff, faculty, employee, or a team listing, follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to Formidable → Global Settings → Directory. Select Team and choose between the two-column or four-column layout.
  2. Choose a new page title for the Listing Form and Directory page. Click the Create Now button. The following items will be generated:
    • Forms: Team Directory
    • Views: Team Directory Rows, Team Directory List
    • Pages: Add a Listing, Directory
  3. To customize your new pages, click the View Page button and make any required changes.

By default, all directory-generated pages are saved as drafts and not published right away. In this way, you can still review the page and make necessary changes before it goes live.

Create a user/member directory

If you would like to create a directory that allows you to search a user/member directory and click on the member to view more details, follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to Formidable → Global Settings → Directory. Select User/Member and choose between the two-column or table list layout.
  2. Choose a new page title for the Listing Form and Directory page. Click the Create Now button. The following items will be generated:
    • Forms: User Directory Profile
    • Views: Table Listing User Directory, Grid User Directory
    • Pages: Add a Listing, Directory
  3. To customize your new pages, click the View Page button and make any required changes.

By default, all directory-generated pages are saved as drafts and not published right away. In this way, you can still review the page and make necessary changes before it goes live.

Create a business directory

If you would like to create a directory that allows you to create a search form for local or country-wide businesses, follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to Formidable → Global Settings → Directory. Select the Business directory type.
  2. Choose a new page title for the Listing Form and Directory page. Click the Create Now button. The following items will be generated:
    • Forms: Business Directory, Contact Listing Owner, Listing Reviews
    • Views: Paid Listings, Business Reviews
    • Pages: Add a Listing, Directory
  3. To customize your new pages, click the View Page button and make any required changes.

By default, all directory-generated pages are saved as drafts and not published right away. In this way, you can still review the page and make necessary changes before it goes live.

Show listings without payment

Business Directory is set up to only show paid listings. Therefore, it requires an add-on installed like PayPal, Stripe, or Authorize. If you would like to show listings without a payment, follow the instructions below.

  1. If you have already created a Business Directory, go to Formidable → Views and search for the Paid Listings View.

  2. Inside the View builder, click the Filter Entries icon.

  3. Remove the Payment Status” filter by clicking the minus sign icon.

Manage entries

To add, edit, and view entries for your Directory, go into your Directory form and click the Entries tab. Learn more about how to manage entries from the back-end.

Styling directory

Views created from the Directory plugin uses the Classic View type. If you want to customize the Views, you can use the available built-in View classes.

Limitations

Fields created with the Directory plugin onset can’t be added back at the user’s discretion. Once it has been deleted, you would have to recreate it from scratch or reinstall the plugin.

Troubleshooting

We didn’t find anything to import

If you see this error message, it means you might not have current access to the plugin. Please create a new ticket at the help desk with the message that you are seeing.
